Sr Software Development Engineer – AWS Simple Storage Service (Seattle, WA)
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is “Storage for the Internet” and provides simple web services interfaces that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the Web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, fast, inexpensive data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. Since its public launch in 2006, Amazon S3 has been growing rapidly. Adoption has exceeded all projections by a considerable amount.
As a Sr. Software Engineer, you’ll provide technical leadership for Amazon S3, Amazon Web Services, and Amazon.com as a whole. You’ll think globally and ensure we continue to build high performance, scalable systems that fit well together. You’ll help establish performance and technical standards for the systems we build and help drive Amazon’s overall technical architecture, engineering practices and engineering methodologies. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining and raising our technical standards by mentoring and reviewing the work of other engineers.
You’ll be part of a strong team in a fast-paced, start-up like environment, working on one of the most demanding, deep, and leading edge technologies in the company. As a technical leader, you’ll need to be a pragmatic visionary who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions and be willing and able to roll up your sleeves and get hands on. You’ll need to be able to produce both detailed technical work and high-level architecture designs. Like others on the team, you’ll need strong object oriented design and implementation experience, strong Java or C++ skills, and ideally have experience developing and working with highly available distributed systems.
It’s still early days for cloud computing. There are still many interesting challenges to solve as we continue to scale and enhance Amazon S3. The solutions you come up with will help shape the product and the industry.
* 10+ years of industry experience * BS/MS in Computer Science, (PhD a plus) * Must have played a technical leadership role for several complete large-scale projects. * Deep hands-on technical expertise in at least one major technical area: large scale Unix systems engineering, building complex distributed systems, storage technologies. * Experience mentoring and training the engineering community on complex technical issues * Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills * Track record of delivery
